Maoism (a poem)

I want to spend the rest of my life carving Buddha statues in teek wood with faces of Mao Zedong.

I will sell them at flea markets, craft shows, art in the park, import stores.

I will make $17 million. I will buy happiness with that money.

No one will understand why I put Mao’s face on the Buddha

Some will thing it is liberal anti-communist propaganda

Others that I deify Mao

The liberals will say I am showing a tyrant to be a savior

Maoists will say I am making an orthodoxy of their liberation

Both will be right

Their liberation is a terrible orthodoxy and that tyrant will be their savior.
